Crooked tree

“Once upon a time there was a crooked tree and a straight tree. And they grew next to each other. And every day the straight tree would look at the crooked tree and he would say, “You’re crooked. You’ve always been crooked and you’ll continue to be crooked. But look at me! Look at me!” said the straight tree. He said, “I’m tall and I’m straight.” And then one day the lumberjacks came into the forest and looked around, and the manager in charge said, “Cut all the straight trees.” And that crooked tree is still there to this day, growing strong and growing strange.”

Nightwatching

Directed by Peter Greenaway
Starring: Martin Freeman, Emily Holmes

This film is based on the life of Dutch baroque painter Rembrandt, focusing on the creation of his most famous painting Night Watch. First I thought the film was a stage play but then I noticed that the point was to make the whole film look like a Rembrandt painting. It is visually very pleasing and interesting; the setup of the scenes is unique and odd. I enjoyed watching it because it is so beautiful but rough at the same time. The plot was slightly too boring for me, since I’m not a big fan of the old style of talking, and that just became too monotone. But if you are interested in art and visually beautiful films you should watch it.

Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

Directed by Chris Columbus
Starring: Logan Lerman, Brandon T. Jackson, Alexandra Daddario, Sean Bean, Pierce Brosnan, Uma Thurman, Steve Coogan, Rosario Dawson

I usually really like adventure/historical/teeny/kid/fantasy kind of movies, and since it’s not the most common genre I’m always excited when a new one is coming out. I knew Percy Jackson was about a kid, Greek mythology and some kind of quest, so I was kind of looking forward to watch this one. It was ok, but unfortunately slightly disappointing. I guess coming from the Indiana Jones generation there won’t be many adventure films that will impress me…The film was too cheese for me. The mythology part to easy and cheap and the story line was predictable. Even though I thought that the movie was getting long I still got entertained. So if you are into this kind of genre I would definitely watch it. If not, don’t waste your time, there is always other films out there…

Urga
Directed by Nikita Mikhalkov
Starring: Bayaertu, Badema, Vladimir Gostyukhin

Beautifully and extensively filmed Mongolian steppes. Characters that are let loose to follow their own shenanigans and interact natural amongst themselves.

Funnier and odder…

So if you like foreign films with a slow or nonexistent plot, strange characters and funny weirds dialogs, you should definitely watch this film.

Some people tell me I’m crazy for even considering it. Some people say it’s a good idea.
I say who cares, and I’ll do it anyways… I will sell my one legged Alice…
If none of you like her, I still do! So she’ll always be my special little girl.
