Who are you and what do you do?
I’m a Brazilian designer, studying Advertising. I worked 5 years in an Advertising Agency, and I started working with freelance, with Advertising and general design, a couple months ago.
What's the origin of your artist name?
Tolagunestro, or Juan Álvarez Tolagunestro, was a character on one of my tales. I liked to write inspired in Jorge Luis Borges’ style - fantastic realism - and also I have my influences on Kafka, Joao do Rio and other writers. But now I’m using my free time for design and art only... Guess I’ll restart writing soon.

What has been your biggest challenge with your art so far?
Learning watercolors without any classes. I’m still doing it, but I’m truly enjoying the results.
I’m having the support of my girlfriend with it. She had class with one of the best watercolorists in Brazil.
Who or what is your biggest influence?
Giger, Bosch, Dave Mckean, my older brother (who was an influence for me, with his drawings, on my entire childhood). And so many others. I like to keep as much styles as I can with my arts, so I have many people who I could call influence.
What is your wildest story?
Aha, perhaps it’s in one of my tales.
What is the last book you read?
William Gibson - Pattern recognition.

I have some projects I want to finish ‘till the end of the year, I’m going to publish them on my portfolio sites, so keep on checking them.
What was the last song you fell in love with?
I think I’m still in love with it. I think it’s the best song ever made. I heard about a year and a half ago, more or less, and still is the best, for me. John Frusciante - This Cold. The bass in this song is just magic, and I play bass. This was the main reason I started listening to this song. Just awesome.
Can you hula hoop?
A lot!!! But only with Sayuri.
What do you like?
Love.
What do you dislike?
Hate.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Reach your dreams hard and insistently. And if you get tired for any cause, insist more.
